Shawn`s Cambodia Hike For Shelter 2025

Posted Nov 6th, 2025 in General, Team Zold Extras

Our Team Lead Shawn Zigelstein just returned from his fourth charity trek — this time through the beautiful and inspiring country of Cambodia — alongside 120 courageous Royal LePage agents from across Canada. Together, they have raised over $1.6 million (and counting!) in support of Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and our local Women's Shelter The Yellow Brick House, helping women and children escape domestic violence and rebuild their lives.

Shawn hiked 100KM through heat, dust, and jungle trails. He slept in tents, navigated plumbing very different from what we’re used to in Canada, and leaned on his trek mates through laughs, tears, blisters, rashes, and everything in between.

Cambodia itself was unforgettable — a country full of warmth, resilience, and joy. The people Shawn met were always smiling, laughing, and embracing life with open hearts. Their spirit was contagious and added a whole new layer of meaning to his journey.

Shawn would like to thank his fellow trek mates — he will carry the memories made forever. They made this experience one of courage, connection, and compassion.

And to everyone who supported Shawn’s trek — your generosity made every step count.

Let’s keep walking toward a future where safety is a right, not a privilege.

"There are so many reasons why I volunteer to sleep in a tent, have no running water, tents with a hole in the ground to use the washroom, and some grueling days of hiking in some extreme changes in temperature… but the most important reason is to help bring even more awareness to the needs that we have in dealing with violence against women and children. This has to stop and as I write this and we are hovering around the 1.7 million dollar mark raised for this event - we can always use more!" - Shawn said.

This was Shawn’s fourth hike for Shelter, as he hiked Iceland in 2017, in Sahara Desert in 2019 and in Ecuador in 2022.

Shawn told us that all treks have been life changing experiences for himself while having the ability to know that others lives have been changed with the fundraising efforts of the over $1,600,000 that was raised coast to coast this year.

To all of those who donated and sponsored this great cause, thank you so much!!!

The money raised from you will benefit the Yellow Brick House which is our local shelter that needs every penny.

Please feel free to check out the donation link at www.teamzoldhike.com and give a little something if you are so kind to help support such an amazing cause.
