4 Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Warm Weather
Summer is just around the corner. You might be ready for the warm weather and sunny days, but is your home ready? In addition to the traditional deep spring cleaning, it is important that you complete some simple, yet crucial, chores to prep your house for the heat.
Here are 4 tips to get your home ready for the summer season – that will save you time and money in the long run.
1. Inspect Your Roof: During the winter, minor problems may arise that you haven’t yet noticed. It’s important to tackle such issues before they become major ones. Check your roof for misaligned or cracked shingles and your chimney for rust, as both may be a sign of water seepage. If you can’t get up on your roof, grab a pair of binoculars and check it out from across the street.
2. Check Your Attic: It can get very hot in the attic, and quickly too, so get up there while you still can. Look out for air vent obstructions and wet spots in the insulation, as they may be indicative of a leak. If you find you’ve had critters nesting up there, be sure to get rid of their droppings. Consider wearing a mask and protective clothing.
3. Clean Your Grill: The summer months are often filled with lots of barbecuing, so get your grill ready by cleaning both its outside and inside. If you have a gas grill, check burners for clogs and ensure all gas connections are secure. If it’s a charcoal grill, make sure it’s free of ash and grease.
4. Check Outdoor Play Equipment: Before your children spend the summer on the swings, make sure the equipment is still sturdy and strong. If it is potentially hazardous, have it properly repaired to ensure safety.
Once these maintenance chores are out of the way, both you and your home can enjoy the heat!
